Temidayo

Temidayo – my own has turned to joy

The fortune teller was right: Ilé ọba tójó ẹwà ló bùsi

The river spits out seven cowries for me

I swallow the glory of the sun

& break forth like dawn.

Glossary / Translation of the Yoruba Proverb used:

When a king’s palace burns down, the rebuilt palace is more beautiful.

A Chorus for Memory

after Diana Khoi Nguyen

This is how she found us /

the past draped on us like a cloak

Our bodies shivering in a blistering cold /

feet soaked in buckets of snow

Teeth shattering like trembling glass /

lips singing an ode to memories.
