Visual Art by MAYASE ZULU

Seven

Titled Seven, this artwork honours the strength and sacrifice of a C-section birth. It features a central incision with seven concentric colour bands representing the layers of skin, fat, and fascia cut to reach the child in the radiant centre. Physical black threads sew the wound shut with motherly love. (Made in 2026)

Twaleta
Twaleta is a portrayal of community, family, and togetherness through a chilanga mulilo, a traditional Bemba ceremony where the bride's family presents traditional Zambian foods to the groom’s family. A procession of women dressed in white tops and chitenges moves along a gravel path cutting through green grass; carrying pots balanced on their heads, they walk to the beat of the drums. (Made in 2026)

Copper Princess

Copper Princess is a multimedia assemblage painting that celebrates Zambian heritage, natural beauty, and the wealth of the land through rich texture and vibrant symbolism. (Made in 2025)

Ku M’mawa

Ku M’mawa depicts a traveller’s layover in the Eastern Province of Zambia. Viewed through a car window, a vendor extends skewers of a regional delicacy, mbeba (field mice), offered for the journey. Beyond is a lively roadside market with numerous stands. (Made in 2026)
